MANAGERS / COACHES
- Place the well-being, safety and enjoyment of each player above everything, including winning
- Give all players, whatever their ability, the chance to play
- Always encourage and promote fair play and teach players that the Laws of the Game are mutual agreements that should never be broken
- Accept that giving ones maximum effort to win is more important than winning itself
- Set good standards of behaviour yourself and always offer praise and encouragement
- Ensure that coaching sessions are fun and focus on developing skill, team work and a better understanding of the rules and ethics of the game
- Be reasonable in your demands on the children’s time, energy and enthusiasm
- Refrain from, and refuse to tolerate any form of bullying
- Develop mutual trust and respect with every player to build their self-esteem
- Show respect to others involved in the game including match officials, opposition players, coaches, managers, officials and spectators
- Never ridicule, criticise or shout at players for making mistakes or losing a match.
- Never shout at, criticise or abuse match officials or enter the field of play without their permission
PLAYERS
- Have fun, enjoy your football and always do your best, even if your team is losing or the other team is stronger.
- Show respect to your opponents and their supporters, and always shake hands with the other team and referee at the end of the game
- Always play fair and within the rules of the game – never cheat, complain or waste time
- Never use foul or abusive language or make crude gestures
- Encourage and support your teams mates, never criticise them
- Respect the referee and officials, accept all decisions without question
- Worked as hard for your team mates as you do for yourself
- Always be a good sport, applaud all good play whether it be by your team, or by your opponents
- Treat all players as you would like to be treated yourself
- Listen to your manager/coach and respect what he/she says
- Co-operate with and respect your manager, coaches, team mates & opponents – without them there would be no football match.
- Talk to someone you trust, for example your parents or the club welfare officer if you are unhappy about ANYTHING at the club.
PARENTS/SUPPORTERS
- Children want to play the game for their own enjoyment, not yours
- Encourage your child to play fairly, within the rules of the game and with respect for others – without opponents there would be no game
- Never pressure your child about winning or losing, ALWAYS remember that children play for FUN
- Focus upon the child’s efforts and performance rather than the overall result of the game, this assists children in setting realistic goals related to their ability.
- Teach your child that an honest effort is as important as a victory, so that the result of the game is accepted without undue disappointment
- Children learn best from example, so support and encourage all players, including the opposition
- Never publicly criticise or ridicule your child or other players for making a mistake – mistakes are part of learning
- Condemn the use of violence in any form, be it by spectators, coaches, officials or players
- Demonstrate appropriate social behaviour by not using offensive, insulting or abusive language, and not harassing players, coaches or officials
- Let the coaches do their job and not confuse the players by telling them what to do
- Never publicly question decisions made by the match officials, remember that most officials give their time and effort for your child’s enjoyment for free
- Remain outside the field of play and behind the Designated Spectator Area (where provided)
